Motivation Theories
We'll analyze different motivational theories from the perspective of Andrea, whose details will be described hereafter.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs contains five levels, each representing a group of needs, as the lower four levels are generally physiological ones and the highest one of the five is associated as a psychological need.
Once a certain set of needs is no longer being met, the person will re-prioritize those needs and his attention will be focused on fulfilling those needs rather than any other ones.
In Andrea's case, because she is living alone and in an old apartment building, after her building was vandalized, she no longer feels safe and her sense of security is gone.
Therefore, she is focused on re-obtaining her sense of safeness and stability, and that becomes her priority instead of other things that were previously prioritized by her, like attending classes, going to work, caring about the environment, etc.
